Tri Marine is a major supplier of albacore, especially
from Taiwanese longliners operating in the Pacific, Indian and
Atlantic Oceans.
Long Line
The U.S. is the largest market in the world for albacore
tuna. Much of the albacore for the US market is supplied by
Tri Marine from Taiwanese longliners which unload to processing
plants in American Samoa.
Albacore caught by longliners operating in the Indian and
Atlantic Oceans is either transshipped to Tri Marine's reefer
carriers or into refrigerated containers for delivery to these
plants in American Samoa and elsewhere around the world.
Transshipment of Longline
Albacore
Longliners operate for extended periods at sea. It is not
unusual for fishing trips to last six months, or longer. Tri
Marine serves the longliners by using reefer carriers to bring
fuel, bait and provisions to the boats for transfer at high
seas.
During the high seas rendezvous, the longliner is able to
unload its catch of albacore to the carrier. This allows the
boats to stay on the fishing grounds and avoid costly and
time-consuming port calls.Tri Marine serves the longliners

Troll Caught Albacore
Tri Marine sources troll caught albacore aka pole and line
or jig boat albacore, from South Africa, New Zealand, Japan,
and the U.S. West Coast. Tri Marine's plant in San Pedro is
a buying station for albacore from the US bait and jig boat
fleets.
Troll caught albacore tends to be smaller than longline caught
albacore. It has higher oil content and is therefore tastier
than longline caught albacore. It is especially valued by consumers
of tuna in Spain, the largest market for troll caught albacore.
